a simple birthday salubong for michael

Mike's birthday, December 20, falls right smack in the middle of the hectic preparations for the holidays and the endless string of Christmas parties and reunions. As such, we usually have no time to prepare for anything special, and Mike being Mike, he's fine with it and would be happy enough to have a simple dinner. We also have a day out with his family, since his father's birthday is right after his.

But I wanted to step it up a notch this year. He's an awesome, awesome person and deserves something more than last minute dinner plans! I had been feeling guilty about this and so I prepared a little birthday salubong. Nothing fancy, but it's still a step up the usual way we celebrate (if at all).

I wanted something that would represent a few of his favorite things and I was able to do just that, having his favorite characters in different forms: paper (cubees - pattern courtesy of Cubeecraft), toys (his and Sloan's), cake (by The Bunny Baker), and human (mascot si Sloan haha).

This little display was set up the night before his actual birthday. Here are the photos:

Awesome cake is awesome!

My cubee creations! Plus Mike's toys na inarbor na ni Sloan :) Those black-and-white buntings in the background were recycled from Sloan's birthday - bawas aksaya right? :P

Cutest mascot ever! Sloan was so stoked that he can dress up as Spiderman for Daddy's birthday :)

The birthday boy has arrived!

The verdict? He loved it! Yey! This was also fun for Sloan because he knows most of the characters "featured" in my little display. I am so happy because that made my cubee-cutting efforts all worth it! Hahaha :)
