eating in the dark at mezza norte

we spent most of saturday cooped up at home and by late afternoon, i was itching to go out. i convinced mike to take us to ayala technohub so sloan can run around a bit, watch the fishies swim, and we can have an early dinner.

when we got there, we saw tents where the fountains were supposed to be at. turned out it was mezza norte day. we decided to check it out.

mezza norte features some of the mercato centrale favorites, like merry moo's ice cream, uncle resty's roast beef, and big bob's char-grilled burgers. there were also yellow cab, red kimono, and reyes barbeque stalls, and i thought it was a bit off because they don't really seem like food market material. i'm guessing it's a deal they have with the said restos which have branches in technohub; and were probably not looking forward to competing with a food market.

there's also a tiangge and stage for an acoustic performer - very tiendesitas ang peg! parang hindi ko siya bet but i guess it works for them.

it was around 5:30 pm when we got there and it was drizzling. too bad, because it would've been nice dining in the open area.

the place was supposed to open at 6 pm but some merchants were already serving customers. mike got some ribs and peppered corn, while i got a salmon steak and isaw baboy. as usual, we had to take turns eating so that the other could attend to sloan, whose top priority was to around the area.

the ribs mike ordered were okay but the real star of the show was the peppered corn, which even i enjoyed. my salmon steak was perfectly cooked, not dry at all. it was priced at P190 and was definitely worth the moolah, considering the hefty size.

sorry for the blurry photo - it was so dark and i didn't know how to adjust my camera's settings :)
we loved the food but we would've enjoyed it more if only we were able to see it better. the thing is, the lights were not switched on until it was exactly 6 pm. that it was a gloomy day didn't help any, because it got dark quite early, so we were literally eating in the dark. parang may brownout lang!

a maintenance crew passed by and i asked if they weren't gonna turn on the lights yet. he replied that they will do so at exactly 6 pm - which didn't make sense because there were already a lot of customers, plus the merchants were also preparing their goods in the dark. kainis :S

overall, it was an okay experience. but it would've been heaps better if they just switched on the goddamn lights.

anyways. to end this on a happy note, here's mike and sloan, with their "wacky" poses :P

sama na din ako - blurred nga lang :P
