cheap thrill: tagaytay

It's awesome having a place like Tagaytay only a few hours away from the metro. It's very useful for those looking for a quick getaway. No plane fares needed, and you don't even need to stay overnight because just a day is already enough to somewhat rejuvenate you.

Mike and I don't come here often (we really should) but when we do, I always feel like we've been on a long vacation somewhere, even if it was just a day trip. I guess that's what a change of scenery can do for you.

During the long weekend, we headed there with Sloan and enjoyed some of the attractions. The good thing about Tagaytay is that you don't really have to spend much to have fun.

For instance, you can drop by Taal Vista Hotel and enjoy the nice park and viewing deck in there. They welcome even those who did not book accommodations in the hotel. The parking fee is a bit steep at a hundred bucks, but considering that there's no entrance fee and you can stay a while, then it's not too bad.

We dropped by the Sky Ranch which has an amusement park and horse riding section. Entrance fee is at P50 per head, with separate fees for the rides. We were looking to have Sloan ride the horse and he was really excited about it, but sadly, he wasn't able to because kids 3 years old and below aren't allowed even with an adult companion. But the manong was kind enough to let Sloan sit on a horse just to get a feel of it. When he got off, he asked, "Hindi aandar yung horse?" Awww :(

Other rides we tried were the train and the carousel, tickets for both at P50 per head. We left after that because the place was getting pretty crowded and it was already time for lunch. There are restos in Sky Ranch like KFC and Kenny Rogers but parang ang baduy naman mag-KFC bilang sa kanto lang namin e meron nun hahaha :) We ended up at our go-to place in Tagaytay, Leslie's. The place has a nice viewing deck.

We also went shopping for fruits and those sold in Tagaytay sure are cheaper than the ones you find in supermarkets. Our P500 bucks went a long way - we got small pineapples, mangosteen, mangoes, bananas, plus lettuce for salads and sandwiches.

That was a pretty awesome day :)
