zumba with deekee!

While most everyone was relaxing and being all chill last Sunday, Annej and were dancing and jumping and shaking in a Zumba class along with over a hundred others. Pawisan beauties kami (pero take note, beauty pa din! Hahaha)! But this was one event we really wanted to be a part of, as it was led by our good friend from college Deekee Gaerlan, who's now making waves in the US and Asia as a Zumba instructor.

Before the class started, we were able to chat a bit with Deekee and he shared how he got started in teaching.


He moved to the States shortly after we graduated in 2000. He attended a Zumba class there and caught the attention of the instructor with his flashy moves (knowing Deekee, I'm sure talagang makatawag-atensyon ang performance nya!) and so he asked Deekee to join him up the stage. After the class, the instructor encouraged him to get certified and teach Zumba too. That he did, and he's been at it for three years now.

And boy, he conducts quite a class! So much fun, I tell you. He has perfect rapport with the participants and such a high level of energy that made it all seem like one big party. At first I thought I would find it awkward because I know Deekee very well and might think about college days more than dance. Pero waley! Hingal, habol sa steps, sigaw, tawa, sayaw!

There were some points during the the class when he'd ask some participants to join him up the stage; and Annej, our other college classmate Linette (who's now with GMA), and I had the chance to do that :) Fun!

Another college classmate Emil, a former officemate at ABS-CBN, also joined to support the event. Awesome coincidence that we all chose yellow for our shirts (there were pink and orange shirts too). Yey Team USTe!

I'm super proud of Deekee! Perfect example of a person who's reaping the benefits of following his heart and working hard :) Congrats Deekee!
