planning for sloan's 2nd birthday

sloan's second birthday is coming up and i've already started planning for it. i've been quite absorbed in it that i often forget that my own birthday is coming up in a few weeks time. i guess that's how it is when you have a kid and i'm definitely not complaining.

akalain mong magkaka two-year-old na ko! mommy and sloan (plus a bit of daddy) chilling at home :)
what i have in mind is pretty basic - a throwback to the house parties we used to have when we were kids, where there'd be a classic menu of spaghetti, hotdogs, a chiffon cake and ice cream; no fancy games or other add-ons but there'd be balloons. while it would be fun to throw a big bash and there are several fancy ideas and services available, at sloan's age i don't think it's very practical. also, i guess it's my own little way of trying to teach him to appreciate simple joys too.

i was further inspired when i read frances amper-sales's story on how they celebrated their son vito's second birthday. that's quite how i like it - simple yet classy and fun :)

the theme i've chosen is basketball, because it's the one thing that that sloan consistently enjoys. in fact, one of his first words was "bah-ball." kahit nga mommy or daddy hindi pa nasasabi, pero yung baskteball, keri na? talaga itong batang to! :) the theme is pretty plain, but i'll be adding some personal touches to try and make it extra special. i've been frequenting hostess with the mostess for inspiration and i'm looking forward to getting crafty!

here are some ideas:

there will probably be no games. we'll be inviting sloan's cousins for lunch and bit of play time at home and it'll be their first time to visit our place. then after that, we'll head to bonifacio high street so the little one can play some more and run to his heart's content with his favorite playmates.

and while they're busy doing that, i will probably be seated on the grass, taking photos, quietly marveling at how mike and i are actually raising a child together, and thanking my lucky stars for the blessing of such a perfect little boy.

  1. Yup, toddlers don't need a lot to be happy =D Don't be pressured to throw a huge party. You'll get stressed lang with the preps and costs. What's important is good food and good company. Have fun! Happy birthday to you and your Sloan!
