an arts and crafts (and life) lesson from my sister

i did say i was excited about getting crafty for sloan's birthday, right? well i've gotten started on some materials and i work on them every night. with my measly photoshop skills, i designed some stuff,  and i'm also working on some stuff by hand.

whenever i do arts and crafts activities, i am reminded of the time when my sister, cousin, and i thought we'd start a souvenirs business. this was the time when photobooths were unheard of , and dainty figurines and phot frames were all the rage hehehe :) we emptied our piggy banks, pooled our money together, and bought materials at divisoria so we can come up with samples for potential clients to view and choose from.

i had so many ideas and was so eager to see them come to life that i created many samples in quite a hurry. ang ending: ang daming chismis ng mga gawa ko! from glue splatters to crooked cuts and uneven shapes!

one day, my sister told me, "shanen, kung gagawa ka, yung mukha namang bibilhin."

me being the overly sensitive little sister, i took offense in what she said. but later on i realized how much her advice made sense; that she wasn't being simply concerned about the prospect of earning; it was also about making sure you churn out quality stuff. it will carry your name or your brand after all.

that happened when i was in high school. her words have stuck with me through all these years :)
